About Head Start
Mission & Philosophy
Lewis County Head Start Mission Statement:
Lewis County Head Start’s mission is to impact families and the community, through strong partnerships and high-quality early childhood education services, so that families are more self-sufficient and children are school ready and prepared for lifelong learning.
Philosophy:
In partnership with parents, Lewis County Head Start promotes children’s school readiness skills through high quality, comprehensive and fun learning experiences. We believe parents are their child’s first and most influential teacher; together we can support children’s ongoing learning and development. We encourage parents to be engaged and involved as much as it works for them and their family.
Head Start is a Federal program that promotes the school readiness of children from birth to age five, and is funded through the Department of Health and Human Services. Head Start provides early childhood development services to children and families, with special emphasis on promoting school readiness in the areas of language and cognitive development, early reading, science and mathematics, social skills and physical development.
